As I mentioned in our Minted giveaway post, I’m not a huge fan of the holidays–mostly because it’s so hard for so many of us to resist all the messages to buy too much and do too much.
However, I’m not a total Scrooge. I love giving and receiving gifts from the heart that haven’t bankrupted the giver. For me, that often means gifts made by hand. That’s one reason I was pretty tickled to see that Apartment Therapy is running a series on homemade gifts this month.
The series hasn’t been running long, but I’ve already found a few projects I’m thinking of tackling. My favorite is probably these stenciled tea towels:
In a similar vein are these cloth napkins made from tea towels:
While that particular project didn’t totally knock my socks off, it did lead me to the maker’s blog. Katey Ann has a couple of great handmade gift ideas that did knock my socks off. I’m particularly partial to her handmade notebooks, which you can see here.
And I’m super-pleased to share that one of our projects has been selected for this series, one that you might have missed if you weren’t reading us last year at this time:
I made these for my mom (and myself!) last year from some thrifted sweaters. I’m happy to report that they’re holding up well, and I’m thinking of making some more. If you’d like to see last year’s post with full tutorial, click here. And if you want to see all of AT’s projects to date, click here.
We’ll be back soon with some new projects–both Cane and I have posts in the works. Here’s a sneak peak of what we’ve been up to:
See you soon!
